Nar'eth does not celebrate Life Day.

|The Nar'eth Winter Special is now up.

and illustrated by yours truly, it's a bit of Farscape
fan-fiction, and was a lot of fun to make. I tried a lot of new things, and learned a lot of new things just through the process of working with Caitlin.
In any case, I hope it goes over better than the infamous Star Wars
Holiday Special, which I watched earlier this evening. I'll post thoughts on it later. I have complicated, astounded, horrified, bemused, outright betwirtled thoughts about it.
Current Music: "The Book I Read" - Talking Heads
at least you weren't alive when that thing originally aired!
Yeah, I guess it'd be worse to have it filed with my childhood Star Wars
So how exactly do you draw the comics, anyway? Do you draw them old-school and then scan them, or do you have a tablet sort of thing, or do you put your forehead against the monitor screen and visualize real hard, or...what? :)

I have to do that to make sure the rest of you stay animated.
As for comics, I draw each page in pencil on a 9x12 piece of paper, although, with the margins I measure, the comic page is more like 6.5 by 11.2 inches. Then I staple a piece of tracing paper over it and ink it with .5mm tip pins (I'd prefer to use some kind of clamp instead of staples, but you work with what you've got). After that, I scan it as a full colour bmp, and then load the image in my old copy of Paint Shop Pro (my friend last night was shocked to learn I'm still using 5.01). If you haven't got Paint Shop Pro, you can do just well with Photoshop, and probably a lot of other Paint-like programmes. Anyway, I reduce the image to two colours, which makes it pretty much white with black lines. I clean it up a little, and then I change it to a 16 million colour image. And colour! Colouring's the easiest, but most time consuming part. I draw all the shades with the colours--for example, a blue shirt I'd first fill in with the blue, and then I'd find a darker, greyer version of the blue, and "draw" with the paintbrush tool the outlines of the shades. Then I fill them in with the same colour.
When I'm done, I resize the image to a width of 750 pixels and save it as a jpg. I save as a bmp before resizing, though, in case I want to change something later.
What the frell is "Life Day"?
Okay. I just answered my own question, with the help of Google. Life Day is wookie Xmas. So, no, Nar'eth does not celebrate Life Day. But she probably would frell a wookie...

If you ever do see the 1978 Star Wars
Holiday Special, you may want to limit your wookies-you'd-like-to-frell to Chewbacca, assuming the special doesn't make you lose respect for him, too.
Outright betwirtled? This I must hear!
Yeah? I'll probably be griping about my betwirtlement if I don't end up too busy to-day . . .
