To-night I did something that felt roughly akin to the performance of a ceremony involving the slashing open of a small animal and allowing its lifesblood to flow freely onto an alter. I did it at what has become a nightly haunt of mine and my friend's--a coffee shop called The Living Room. I felt I took a few steps further on a desolute path of gray pebbles. I felt I was where I wanted to be. I felt I was somewhere sad, and lonely and . . . natural. I felt, for the first time in several days, that I was back on the track I was built for. I also had a grilled cheese sandwich.
