Setsuled's Walk 02:29 am
I'm back.

Nice to see not too much has changed in my absence . . . dogs smell, cats talk, and electronics are everywhere . . .

Lake Arrowhead was interesting except when it was absolutely dull. Which was most of the time.

I didn't notice at first . . . I was in a kind of daze, just, I guess, from how I was regarding life at the time. I was utterly in the mood to be led around on a leash, which is practically what was. I hardly noticed there was nothing to do because I was only barely aware of my surroundings and situations.

Lake Arrowhead is way, way, way up on a misty cold mountain, not unlike The Misty Mountains from The Hobbit.

In the calculatedly quaint little community, one finds neat little buildings with white stucco, dark wood trim, and slanted, red-tiled roofs. Inside, regardless of the nature of the establishment, one invariably finds grandma-wallpaper and a variety of rustic-ish knickknacks. Even in both of the McDonalds. RadioShack and Rite Aid were the only exceptions.

So okay. Maybe this place ain't exactly untouched by modern industry. But it would certainly like you to think that it is. And I believe it succeeds in fooling a large number of wealthy tourists.

But let me describe to you some of my favourite moments;

One

Although I’ve listened to the album many, many times, on Thursday I finally took the opportunity to sit down with Tori Amos’s Scarlet’s Walk and listen to it from beginning to end while simultaneously reading the lyrics.

It’s a brilliant piece of work.

I listened to it again on the trip home and was made to think about how wonderfully hot and torturous the southern Californian landscape looks. When we returned to Santee, I decided the vegetation on a certain hill looked like the fuzzy little hairs on a decaying, crew-cut corpse.

Two

Because I never did bother to alter my sleeping schedule, I spent a lot of time staring into the total darkness above me. And in the hours spent facing that void, I came to fill it with all sorts of plans for things I’m gonna do and things I’m gonna write.

Three

I wrote a lot.

Four

I attained a new appreciation for flamenco dancing and figure skating from watching professional competitions for these pastimes on ESPN with my sister.

Gods, some of those skaters wear terribly sexy outfits. I’ve been in heat lately and I remember one night, practically all I could think about was how sexy those outfits are.

Actually, the sort of lust that was excited in me could be described as very Kelly Link –ish. Which in an odd way, makes me proud.

Five

I saw Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings) on TV as Rudy in the movie Rudy. I saw Sean Bean (Boromir in The Lord of the Rings) in Patriot Games. And the Polish figure skaters used The Lord of the Rings soundtrack for their session.

I thing someone . . . or something . . . was trying to tell me something.

Six

While waiting in a cute restaurant for breakfast one morning, I was reading the part of The Brothers Karamazov when Father Zosima begins describing his younger days . . . and I decided I wanted to send Trisa an e-mail full of gushings and love and things. So I just did.

Seven

I spotted a really exciting looking mall in San Bernadino on the way to Lake Arrowhead. And even though my parents weren’t game for stopping at the mall, I still feel like I might wanna move to San Bernadino.

That’s about all I can remember. Well, other than the delicious Portobello sandwich I had, but I could never properly convey that lovely thing here.

It’s great to be back!!
