Amateur Sherlocking

Went to see Red Dragon with trisa this evening. I kinna dully accepted its utterly predictable ending until I was reading the Sherlock Holmes Adventure of the Abbey Grange later in the evening and found the Arthur Conan Doyle plot satisfyingly predicting my own predictions.

Just as I was thinking, "Ah ha! At last I've gotten a step ahead of Holmes!" believing I'd figured the culprit's identity three pages in, the line, "'Other things being equal,' said Holmes, 'one would suspect the one at whose head the master threw a decanter. And yet . . .'" threw me.

Alas! So much for my theory.

Incidentally, for those wondering, I did finish and turn in those essays so :P

aw, shaddup.

I was only able to make them enjoyable essays by being somewhat adversarial in them, as they were responses to the sort of questions that considered themselves creative and open-ended, but were in fact very narrow and leading. That's the way with that teacher. He behaves as though he wants free-flowing argumentation and interpretation, but underneath is a thinly veiled unshakable agenda of which I'm not certain I think he's wholly aware.

Then again, he's not such a bad guy. How could he be with a name like Karl Sherlock?

Anyway, I'm coming down off the somewhat dizzying little high of an evening with trisa so if you will excuse me . . .
