Seeing Death

I saw Death this morning.

This is how it happened;

My toast was burnt in several places. I think it was because I put in just one piece instead of my usual two. But it was still pretty much good, so I sat down with it and a glass of cream soda.

I was nearly finished with the toast--just three little crispy black pieces remaining--when I set down my fork and picked up my glass to take a sip . . . and it was through the bottom of the glass that I saw Death. The distortion turned the three remnants of toast into black eyes and nose, the fork into grinning teeth, and the plate itself into the bulk of the skull.

Very strange.
